Perrier Spritz Competition – Create an Icon

With the growing trend towards lower alcohol cocktails, the Spritz has become increasingly popular across the country, with bartenders creating new and delicious interpretations of this iconic drink. Perrier, one of the world’s most iconic mineral waters, can elevate any spritz with its blend of bubbles and balanced minerality.

Using Perrier mineral water, Appetite for Excellence challenges Australia’s bartenders to create an equally iconic spritz, that can be replicated in the home. Using seasonal ingredients, premium spirits and wine along with any bespoke ingredients (that can be made by a home cook) create a modern spritz that compliments and elevates Perrier mineral water.

The competition will be judged by Luke Ashton, owner of award winning spritz and cocktail bar This Must Be The Place and Diageo Australia’s Bartender of the year 2013. http://www.tmbtp.com.au/

Your spritz must contain at least 30ml of Perrier and also contain include wine as one of ingredients. In addition to these ingredients, your spritz can include spirits, aperitifs and liqueurs and a maximum of two homemade ingredients (syrups, shrubs, infusions etc) and be no more than 1.5 standard. Drinks are limited to no more than 5 ingredients, infusions will be considered as 1 ingredient ie a homemade mandarin and rose syrup is 1 ingredient. Garnishes will not be included in the 5 ingredients.

Along with the Spritz recipe, entries must also include a name for the drink, a photo of the drink and a step by step recipe for any homemade ingredients. Entires will also need to include a brief description of the inspiration for the drink and why it deserves to become an icon.

Your spritz should be light, fresh and full of flavour with Perrier providing length, minerality and carbonation to your drink, because you can’t have a spritz without bubbles.

Finalists will be flown to Sydney to make their Spritz for Luke Ashton and Perrier team on Monday 6th August at This Must Be The Place and the Winner will be announced at the Appetite for Excellence awards that where their Spritz will also be served to the leading industry guests.

Prizes include a return Flight with Virgin Australia on the newly launched route from Sydney to Hong Kong and $1000 to spend whilst exploring the vibrant bar seen of Hong Kong.
